Experiencing “Giants” in Richmond
Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz have curated a remarkable gallery filled with culture, history, resilience, and power. Giants: Art from the Dean Collection features over 130 works by 40 Black artists from across Africa, Europe, the Caribbean, and the United States. Upon entering, visitors are greeted with the names of influential creators such as Derrick Adams, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Kwame Brathwaite, Nick Cave, Barkley Hendricks, Arthur Jafa, Titus Kaphar, Esther Mahlangu, Meleko Mokgosi, Odili Donald Odita, Toyin Ojih Odutola, Gordon Parks, Ebony G. Patterson, Deborah Roberts, Jamel Shabazz, Amy Sherald, Mickalene Thomas, and Kehinde Wiley.
Giants honors not only established legends but also emerging artist whose work stands shoulder-to-shoulder with them. The title serves as an allegory—celebrating the artists’ immense cultural impact while highlighting the intellectual power of the pieces themselves.
The Exhibition is available for view at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, Virginia now until March 1, 2026!
